Torque sensors are the detection of torsional moment perception on various rotating or non-rotating mechanical components. Torque sensors convert the physical change in torque into a precise electrical signal. The torque shaft is used to convert the torque into a torsional stress or torsional angle, which is then converted into an electrical signal in a certain relationship to the torque. Torsional shafts are available in the form of solid shafts, hollow shafts, rectangular shafts, etc. According to the principle of action, the torsional stress type torque sensor can be divided into two kinds of resistance strain type and piezomagnetic type; torsional angle type torque sensor can be divided into three kinds of vibrating string type, photoelectric type and phase difference type.
Resistive strain type torque sensor
This type of sensor has a simple structure and is easy to manufacture, but because of the use of conductive slip rings, the vibration frequency is low and is not suitable for high-speed rotating bodies and torsional shaft vibration is large.
Photoelectric torque sensor
It consists of a twisted shaft and two grating discs (Figure 2). There are an equal number of radiating black areas on the two grating discs. When the torsion shaft is subjected to torque, a torsional angular deformation is produced and the grating discs 1 and 2 differ by an angle to form a light transmission port, so that the photoelectric element has a broadening pulse output. The average value of the pulse current is proportional to the torque. This type of sensor is non-contact, but the light source must be supplied with a regulated voltage.
Piezomagnetic torque sensor
The torsion shaft is made of ferromagnetic material and is subjected to a directional stress in the shaft when the torque is applied, with magnetic anisotropy, i.e. a reduction in magnetoresistance under tensile stress; and an increase in magnetoresistance under compressive stress. This type of sensor has no conductive slip ring, is non-contact measurement, has the advantages of high reliability, robustness, high output voltage, insensitive to temperature and disturbances, etc.
Vibroseis Torque Sensor
It uses the vibration chord sensitive torsion angle to measure the torque (see vibration chord sensor), which is characterised by the use of frequency signal transmission method and good anti-interference performance.
Phase Difference Torque Sensor
It consists of a torsional shaft with two gears and a pair of magnetoresistive pulse generators. Each gear is equipped with a detector consisting of a coil and magnets above the top of the teeth. When the torsion shaft is twisted, the output voltage of the two detectors produces a phase difference, which corresponds to the magnitude of the transmitted torque. This type of sensor is characterised by high measurement accuracy, non-contact measurement, good stability, direct digital reading of the torque value, easy recording and control, and simple structure.
Through the above classification of the torque sensor, we know a lot about this point of knowledge, in fact, the torque sensor will be used on many machines, and the use is also very wide, if once the failure, you need to understand where the problem, not a classification, to analyze the specific type of the problem in the end, it should be a specific analysis of specific problems. More knowledge of torque sensors, for future life and work are very good.
Torque sensor features
Can measure both static and rotating torque;
High detection accuracy, good stability and strong anti-interference capability;
Small size, light weight and easy installation;
Continuous measurement of forward and reverse torque without repeated zeroing;
The absence of wear parts such as collector rings, allowing long periods of operation at high speeds;
high strength of the strain relief elastomer, which can withstand 150% of the load
Can be installed in any position and in any direction
The torque sensor part can be used independently of the secondary instrumentation, directly with the measuring board, PLC or DCS to form a torque measuring device.
