Choosing the right product is an important part of the process when it comes to providing solutions. As far as transducers are concerned, there are many types, such as load cells, torque transducers and pressure transducers. If not chosen properly, it can cause a lot of trouble later on, so here are some simple ways to choose a transducer.
1. Determine the type of transducer according to the measurement object and the measurement environment
To perform a specific measurement job, we must first consider which sensor principle to use, such as load cells, torque transducers, pressure transducers, displacement transducers, force transducers, display control instruments, etc. Although each sensor has the same points, there are still quite a few areas where the differences are quite significant. This is determined by analysing a number of factors, as even when measuring the same physical quantity, there is a choice of pressure transducers with a variety of principles.
Which type of sensor is more suitable, you need to consider the following specific issues depending on the characteristics to be measured and the conditions of use of the sensor: the size of the range; the volume requirements of the sensor at the location to be measured; whether the measurement method is contact or non-contact; the method of signal extraction, wired or non-contact measurement. After considering the above issues, you can determine which type of sensor to use and then consider the sensor's specific performance indicators.
2. Choice of sensitivity
In general, it is desirable to have a sensor with as high a sensitivity as possible within the linear range of the pressure sensor. This is because only when the sensitivity is high, the value of the output signal corresponding to the measured change is relatively large, which facilitates signal processing. However, it should be noted that the sensitivity of the sensor is high, and external noise unrelated to the measurement is also easily mixed in, and it will also be amplified by the amplification system, thus affecting the measurement accuracy.
3. Frequency response characteristics
The frequency response characteristics of a pressure sensor determine the frequency range to be measured and the measurement conditions must be kept distortion-free within the permitted frequency range. In practice, the response of the sensor always has a fixed delay and it is desirable that the delay time is as short as possible. Pressure sensors with a high frequency response have a wide range of measurable signal frequencies and a high inertia of the mechanical system due to the structural characteristics, while the measurable signal frequencies are due to the low frequency sensor. In dynamic measurements, the response characteristics should be based on the characteristics of the signal (steady state, transient, random, etc.) to avoid over-fire errors.
4. Stability
The ability of the sensor to maintain its performance unchanged after a period of use is called stability, in addition to the structure of the sensor itself, the factors affecting the long-term stability of the pressure sensor is also mainly the environment in which the sensor is used. Therefore, in order for the sensor to have good stability, the sensor must have a strong environmental adaptability. Before selecting a transducer, investigate the environment in which it will be used and then either select a suitable force transducer for the particular environment of use or take appropriate measures to reduce the impact on the environment.
